Synopsis[]

Team Umizoomi is an American Nick Jr. show aimed at preschoolers. It teaches primarily subjects like shapes, patterns, and number, and encourages interactivity with the viewer, similar to shows like Blue's Clues or Dora the Explorer. The show focuses on Team Umizoomi, a trio of tiny superheroes who use their "Mighty Math Powers" to solve problems around Umi City.

Characters[]

There are 3 protagonists of the show. The 3 of them, along their trusty friend UmiCar and the viewer, known as Umi-Friend), make the titular Team Umizoomi.

Milli is the leader and only girl of the group, who uses her ponytails to measure anything and can change her dress to any pattern.

Geo is Milli's brother who travels around using his Super Skates. He uses his Shape Belt to create objects from many different shapes.

Bot is the team's best robot friend. He has the Umi Alarm which informs the team when someone needs their help using his belly screen to communicate with them. He also has extendable arms and legs for grabbing things from far away, as well as a Bot-O-Mat for storing things.

History[]

Beginning[]

After working on the show Blue's Clues, Soo Kim, Michael T. Smith and Jennifer Twomey were inspired stories involving tiny characters living in a human sized world, and created the show Team Umizoomi. [1]

The Pilot[]

First, a pilot was made for the series, which was originally named The Umizumiz. It had 5 main characters: Milli, Geo, Bot, ZigZag, and Alphonse. They each had powers based off of math, patterns, and measurement. After the pilot was picked up by Nickelodeon, it went under many changes, including a different artstyle and changing the name to Team Umizoomi, as well as scrapping ZigZag and Alphonse, keeping Milli, Geo, and Bot as the main 3 characters.

Season 1[]

On January 25, 2010, the first episode of Team Umizoomi aired with the episode The Kite Festival, starting the first season. The season had the team going to everyday locations, like the library or the airport, teaching kids how they worked. The stakes were very low and there were no antagonists.

The character UmiCar was originally just a car that drove them places, and did not have a face. But later produced Season 1 episodes gave UmiCar a face and a personality, and he became a mainstay for the series, being the focus of a few episodes.

The episode The Butterfly Dance Show introduced DoorMouse, who was originally a one off character for this episode but started reappearing in episode from season 2 and beyond. This episode also introduced a new voice actor for Milli.

Season 2[]

Season 2 of Team Umizoomi aired its season premiere on October 18, 2010 with the episode Race Around Umi City. This season had more supernatural and action-packed episodes with slightly higher stakes, including racing around Umi City, rescuing a mermaid, and returning a comet back to his home. It introduced the first antagonists of the series, including Squiddy the Squid and Dump Truck, who would return in future episodes,

Season 3[]

Season 4[]

This Season Gave Geo A New Voice Actor.

Cancellation[]

After the final episode aired on April 24, 2015, there were no more episodes produced, as Nickelodeon did not pick up the series for a 5th season, so it was cancelled. The Production Company, Curious Pictures, Closed Down That Year.

Current Day[]

As of June of 2024, there seems to be no plans to revive or reboot the series. However, the series is not entirely forgotten by Nickelodeon. It is still currently airing reruns on the Nick Jr. channel to this day, after previously being removed from the lineup for one semester on January 22, 2024, but later returning on June 17, 2024 with a new time slot. Additionally, the main characters from the show still occasionally appear in YouTube videos posted by the Noggin account[2][3], as well as clips from episodes from both the Noggin and the Nick Jr. Music accounts[4][5][6], However, the Noggin app is due to shut down on July 2, 2024.
