Another year, another bulk of mobile game to rate in this year’s Top 5 Most Friendliest F2P Gacha Game In 2020. This year like always, I’ll be highlighting the best free-to-play gacha games 2020 had to offer so the show must go on. Last year I wrote a blog titled “Top 5 Most Friendliest F2P Gacha Game In 2019”, so it’s only natural that I’d do one for 2020 once again, with a slight change!.
Now this list is my own personal opinion of gacha games I feel have done a great job in providing a level of fun and entertainment without leaving you with a feeling like you’re missing out if you don’t spend some dollars.
Before we get started, let me give you a brief explanation on what a gacha game actually is. The term gacha, is a monetization model for video games. In the model, the game displays multiple items for players to randomly draw for a price, similar to the Gashapon (or “gacha”) vending machine. So yeah, that’s pretty much it. Now that you know what it is, let’s get right into the list.
Now, I mentioned a slight change, and that change is that I’ll no longer be ranking the mobile games numerically, but instead just mention the top five in no particular order. I decided to do this because I found that trying to rank certain mobile gacha games became redundant as each person may have different likes or tolerance. The honorable mention section still remains.
Honorable Mention: Exos Heroes
Exos Heroes gets the honorable mention simply because of how amazing the game looks. I’ve heard that the game is friendly to free-to-play players but I never got a chance to fully verify that myself. However, in the time that I did have with Exos Heroes, I was very impressed with the quality of the game and its presentation. A unique visualism beyond your imagination with a unique, extraordinary RPG mechanic, it’s worth checking out.
Genshin Impact
Genshin Impact is a free-to-play action role-playing game developed and published by miHoYo. The game features a fantasy open-world environment and action-based battle system using elemental magic and character-switching and uses gacha game monetization for players to obtain new characters, weapons, and other resources. Now, the reason why I’ve placed Genshin Impact here is for a simple reason. The game for me isn’t the most free-to-play friendly in terms of getting new characters, but the level of gameplay and units offered for new players is more than enough to justify spending some time playing the game. Also, the rate at which you earn the game’s currency to get new units it’s too bad.
Fate/Grand Order
Fate/Grand Order is an online free-to-play role-playing mobile game based on the Fate/stay night visual novel and franchise by Type-Moon, developed by Delightworks and published by Aniplex, a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment Japan. Fate/Grand Order is a turn-based tactical RPG. The player takes the role of “Master” and commands a group of individuals called “Servants,” who are typically historical, literary, and mythological figures from various cultures. What drove me to play this game more seriously was the units in the game all looking super dope and made the summoning experience that much fun. That and I’m currently watching the anime. The game is fairly free to play friendly from my experience and I never felt my time was wasted despite the promos and events for guaranteed SR and SSR been very low compared to other gacha games if that makes any sense.
Dragon Ball Legends
Dragon Ball Legends is a game that requires players to assemble teams of fighters in the form of ‘Z-Power’. The game has moved down on the list this year as I found myself struggling to keep up with the meta of the game, basically to the point of needing to buy chrono crystals just for me to have a viable team in PvP. Still, despite that, if you’re not interested in PvP and just want to collect cool artworks of your favorite DBZ characters, then this game still rewards your time to some extent.
Lord of Heroes
Lord of Heroes is an RPG developed by Clover Games for mobile. Players get to role-play as the protagonist who is fully customizable in the game as you encounter countless heroes. This is something that I haven’t seen yet in a game but makes for a very unique narrative story-telling perspective! I have to say that Lords Of Hereos was a very surprising fair free-to-play game, so long as you’re consistent with it.
Dragalia Lost
Dragalia Lost is an action role-playing game developed and published by Nintendo, in collaboration with Cygames, for Android and iOS. It’s an action role-playing game with a ton of customization and crafting options, great music, and a really compelling multiplayer component. This game should be the blueprint for how all gacha games should be made. It’s amazing how there’s so much content in the game, yet be so friendly to f2p players at the same time.
