Why sign on in Q Classic -- and why so difficult? (2025)

I've seen fixes to avoid repeated sign ons to the Quicken online account from within Quicken Classic (Windows), but have never seen an explanation of why sign on is needed. I work entirely offline except for downloads of transactions/quotes. So why do I need a Quicken account, other than to pay for the app? And, in particular, why do I need to sign on to it to use a desktop app, meaning Quicken for Windows.

And while we're at it, if Quicken is going to make me sign on for reasons unknown, why couldn't it at least interface with my password manager? And, if I try to access the Quicken community through Help option in the app, why can I not paste my password into the password field? (Try it — it doesn't work.)

I hate to tell you this, but your use case isn't what Quicken Inc is concerned about.

Most of their customers do want online services, in fact most of the recent updates are for online services.

I do believe the very first reason for adding the Intuit Id in Quicken 2014 was to clamp down on the licensing/who could install, but quickly afterwards it became where any given need for online storage for an online service went there.

Quicken 2013 was the last version that didn't require a Quicken Id, and as such the last truly offline version. At the time Quicken 2014 came out, mentioned in the forum several times that the very fact that they added a Quicken Id to the process meant that it was no subject to at least that authorization server. I don't think basically anyone really thought much about it at the time.

You shouldn't have to log in all the time, but that isn't because the "requirement to login" was removed. It means that they created some kind of "caching" of the login information so that people could work offline, but I don't think they ever intended to be "permanently offline". It is sort of like their concept of Mobile/Web, they are companions, not separate from the Desktop, and as such whereas they might be used for some extended period of time, the idea was always that at some point you come back to the Desktop and "sync". The big problem I see here is that they aren't going to tell the user what "invalidates" the caching of the login information. Clearly somethings do. And some users hit this pretty often. Personally, I think if it wasn't for me testing things for people and basically forcing that kind of thing, I would almost never have to log into the Quicken Id. And maybe it is just the fact that I run One Step Update at least daily that they consider that "logging in" and the fact that you don't do such operations means they force it every once in a while or whatever. But like I said they aren't talking about what causes this, so this is all speculation.

As for the Help → Quicken Community, well the URL they are using is WRONG!

You will notice that my profile icon is in the upper right corner. I'm already logged in. And there is even "C O" under Sign In. But they are asking me to create a new account!

Chris_UPW, thanks for the comments. To be clear, I do use online services in the sense of getting updates (download transactions and quotes) — indeed, I do that at least a few times per week. My annoyance is regarding the random occasions when I need to enter my Quicken ID and password, but for what purpose? To prove that I have a Quicken license? Of course I do; I pay a fee every year, as we all do these days. I have licenses for many apps and none of them require me to log on the mother ship site at random intervals to prove it.

Oh well, I realize that this is mostly venting on my part. Quicken is a frustrating product: amazingly good and robust in handling the basics, but with just enough crazy glitches and omissions to drive users mad.

I don't really know what to say about having to log into the Quicken Id. I know that I can go months without doing it, and there are people reporting that they have to do it every time they start Quicken. The very fact that they keep how it works a complete mystery makes it impossible to even guess at what is different.

FAQs

What does an abnormal QRS complex indicate? ›

Abnormalities in the QRS complex

The widened or prolonged QRS complex indicates the bundle branch block or hyperkalemia. The increased amplitude of R shows cardiac hypertrophy. Abnormality in the Q wave indicates infarction.

What does it mean when ECG dips down? ›

A normal ECG has only very small Q waves. A downward deflection immediately following a P wave that is wider than two small squares or greater in height than a third of the subsequent R wave is significant: such Q waves can represent previous infarction (see Figure 11, previous page).

How to know if ECG is normal? ›

You'll notice that when the machine is turned on, it produces wavy lines on a piece of paper. Those lines represent the electrical signals coming from your heart. If the test is normal, it should show that your heart is beating at an even rate of 60 to 100 beats per minute.

What are signs of heart issues on ECG? ›

By contrast, an ECG reading of a severely diseased heart is noticeably different. The T-waves may flatten or have more of a downward slope, while the ST segments may have abnormal elevations or depressions, for example.

What does a blockage look like on an ECG? ›

No, an ECG (electrocardiogram) cannot directly detect heart blockages. It primarily records the electrical activity of the heart. Heart blockages or blocked arteries are detected through other tests like angiograms or coronary angiography, which visualise the blood vessels around the heart to identify blockages.

What does an abnormal Q wave mean on an ECG? ›

Conclusion: Abnormal Q waves on the admission electrocardiogram (ECG) are associated with higher peak creatine kinase, higher prevalence of heart failure, and increased mortality in patients with anterior MI. Abnormal Q waves on the admission ECG of patients with inferior MI are not associated with adverse prognosis.

What does a prolonged QRS complex mean? ›

A prolonged QRS duration on surface electrocardiogram is a specific indicator of left ventricular dysfunction.

What is considered an abnormal characteristic of the QRS complex? ›

Prolongation of QRS duration implies that ventricular depolarization is slower than normal. The QRS duration is generally <0,10 seconds but must be <0,12 seconds. If the QRS duration is ≥ 0,12 seconds (120 milliseconds) then the QRS complex is abnormally wide (broad).

What is the next step if ECG is abnormal? ›

If an abnormality is identified, your cardiologist may decide that you need additional testing, which may include an echocardiogram, blood tests, or other cardiac imaging. Your cardiovascular specialist will determine what's causing the EKG changes and recommend appropriate treatment.

Can anxiety cause abnormal EKG? ›

In some patients with traits of anxiety the electrocardiogram may show RS-T segment deviations and low or diphasic T waves in various leads. Reassurance of the patient and fifteen minutes of rest before repetition of the test the next day are often followed by a complete reversal of such changes.

What does AFIB look like on ECG? ›

This means an ECG showing atrial fibrillation will have no visible P waves and an irregularly irregular QRS complex. The ventricular rate is frequently fast, unless the patient is on AV nodal blocking drugs such as beta-blockers or non-dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers.

What is an unhealthy ECG? ›

An abnormal EKG can mean many things. Sometimes an EKG abnormality is a normal variation of a heart's rhythm, which does not affect your health. Other times, an abnormal EKG can signal a medical emergency, such as a myocardial infarction (heart attack) or a dangerous arrhythmia.

Can you still have heart problems if your ECG is normal? ›

A person with a heart condition may have a normal ECG result if the condition does not cause a problem with the electrical activity of the heart. In this case, your doctor may recommend other tests, including: physical examination (listening to heart sounds)

What is the best test to check for heart problems? ›

Coronary angiogram

It's considered to be the best method of diagnosing coronary artery disease – conditions that affect the arteries surrounding the heart. During the test, a long, flexible tube called a catheter will be inserted into a blood vessel in either your groin or arm.

How do you know if the ECG is normal or irregular? ›

The rhythm can be described in 3 ways : Regular (metronome like with every beat equally spaced) Regularly Irregular (every beat not equaly spaced but there is a distinct pattern) Irregularly Irregular (sporadic pattern of beats with no clear spacing)

How do you know if your ECG is regular or irregular? ›

Assessment of whether a rhythm is regular or irregular refers to the distance between adjacent QRS complexes. If the R-R interval is constant, we can assume the rhythm is regular. If the R-R interval differs across beats we can say the rhythm is irregular.

How do you detect an ECG problem? ›

Also called Holter monitoring or ambulatory ECG monitoring, this involves continuously recording your heart's electrical activity for 24 to 48 hours, sometimes longer. This can help diagnose conditions such as atrial fibrillation or uncover the cause of palpitations, which do not happen all the time.

Can ECG be abnormal due to anxiety? ›

In some patients with traits of anxiety the electrocardiogram may show RS-T segment deviations and low or diphasic T waves in various leads.
